As the course progresses, students will examine methods to balance their digital lives, improve time management, and explore the safe and ethical use of technology and AI. In this course, students will examine what makes our lives meaningful, pleasant, productive and healthy. In this course, students will research the varied career options within the vast field of law enforcement and gain a greater self -awareness of individual abilities and interests. The course will provide a detailed overview of several professional opportunities available within the general and specialized services that private and public law enforcement offer. In this course, students will develop an understanding of financial self-management using budget and SMART goal setting strategies. Course material will give students fundamental knowledge on a variety of topics to assist with current and future financial decision making. Topics covered include financial planning, tax concepts, goal setting and budget strategies, banks and banking, saving and investing, credit cards, loans, mortgages, credit history, estate planning, health and life insurance and current fraud schemes. This course strives to teach students how to live within their means today and build a secure financial future.

In this course, students will discover the rudiments of digital photography through not only technical examination, but also artistic and historical discussion. These relevant applications of photography will, in turn, facilitate discussion that covers basic pre and post-production workflow, the components of a camera, and the successful and proper use of the camera itself.

In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop technical skills that will serve as a strong basis for successful entry into today’s trades and technology environments. This introductory course will combine theoretical and hands-on training, with an emphasis on workplace safety. Students will be trained on the proper usage of various hand and power tools through woodworking and other projects, while studying topic areas that include an introduction to mechanical systems such as gears, levers and pulleys, combustion engines and platform framing.

In this course, students will explore the basics of electricity to develop an understanding and respect for the hazards when working with electrified devices. Students will study Ohm’s Law as it applies to voltage, current and resistance, and will construct both series and parallel circuits containing a variety of electrical components. Students will become comfortable with the usage of multimeters to test circuits and will become proficient in reading and creating circuit diagrams.

In this course, students will identify and compare a selection of Global Indigenous worldviews, experiences, and current realities. This journey will begin with Global Indigenous creation stories and ways of being before contact, then explore the impact of colonialism, discuss the reclamation of Indigenous land and culture, and end with an awareness of the current directions and aspirations of some of the world’s Indigenous Peoples. Students explore the common threads that connect the Indigenous groups of the world using both coursework and virtual experiences.

In this course, students will systematically examine how society defines evil and the many different pathways to evil. Students will critically examine the study of evil from psychological, social and biological perspectives. This course will address compelling questions that examine and explain the motives, rationales and environmental influences that cause people to abuse power and to act in destructive and horrific ways. Topics discussed in this course will include cults, terrorism, genocide, psychopaths, and corporate evil, to name only a few. Through analysis of case studies and historical events, students will reflect on how society and individuals can play an active role in reducing hostility and building more compassionate communities.

In this course, students will begin their comprehensive study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Topics include body tissue organization; homeostasis; cytology; histology; and an examination of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous systems and special senses. Upon completion, students will be able to apply fundamental concepts of anatomy and physiology in the analysis of the complex interactions between multiple body systems. Students may examine anatomical alterations to tissues during specific disease states, solely for the purpose of reinforcing specific concepts as they relate to the non-diseased state.

In this course, students will be introduced to the foundations of computer programming using practical examples related to the Mechatronics field. Fundamentals of robotics and industrial automation, including system configurations, applications, methods of power transmission, types of control, tooling and interfacing with peripherals will also be covered. Arduino microcontrollers will be used to provide students with opportunities to program interface and controller units.

In this course, students will learn how sport and physical activities helped residential school students survive and explore ways they can serve to help build reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people here in Canada today. Traditional and modern sports and physical activities will be examined and how a two-eyed seeing approach may be beneficial to decolonizing sport. Key Indigenous teachings will be learned such as Medicine Wheel and Seven Grandfathers and how they can be applied to active lifestyles and sport to serve as medicine to help people with their health and wellbeing. Students will also explore the journey Indigenous athletes needed to go on to becoming a professional athlete and how there is still much needed room for cultural safety in sport.
